What We Do

Finding solutions for you is our business.

what-we-do1We provide advice and assistance in all areas of forest and land management specialising in the following areas:

  • modelling tree growth and carbon sequestration,
  • developing life cycle analyses of forest management systems and wood products,
  • evaluating options for reducing carbon footprints and energy use,
  • identifying opportunities to utilise waste through value adding and renewable energy production,
  • improving forest productivity through optimising nutrition and management, and
  • developing innovative forest systems for maximising environmental and economic benefits.

With over 14 years experience working with the forest industry and State and Federal Government, customer satisfaction is our top priority.

We would welcome the opportunity to work with you and help in any way we can. For more information or specific inquiries please feel free to contact us.

Examples of some of our work

what-we-do2
Radiata pine plantation in Tasmania suffering from nutrient stress
Example of a 20 year old pine plantation (Pinus radiata) used to develop a mid-rotation nutrient management system for a client in Tasmania.

what-we-do3Modelling carbon stocks in Tasmania’s forests
Past, current and future carbon stocks in Tasmania’s native forests and plantations were assessed for the Tasmanian Government in collaboration with CO2 Australia. A new forest carbon model was developed, specifically designed to simulate the complex dynamics that exist in native forests. Scenarios examined included variations in harvesting intensity, growth rates, fire regimes, land-use and climate change.

what-we-do4
Young highly nutrient stressed radiata pine plantation in Tasmania
A nutrient management decision support system developed by CSIRO is being adapted by TreeMod to assist forest managers with selecting the appropriate fertiliser strategy to maximise growth and profitability of softwood plantations in southern Australia.

what-we-do5Monitoring trees at an afforestation afforestation scheme near Bendigo Victoria
Plantation of eucalypts and wattles at Kamarooka 20 km north of Bendigo Victoria on degraded pasture affected by salinity. Trees are being monitored to measure water uptake and growth.

Farm forestry plantation north of Bendigo Victoria
Mixed eucalypt and acacia planting on a farm in northern Victoria north of Bendigo. The economic and environmental benefits of this plantation were assessed and its potential biodiversity value was found to be comparable with that of a native forest.

what-we-do7Pile of cypress pine trees ready for burning
A biomass assessment of the Gippsland in Eastern Victoria conducted for the Department of Industry Innovation and Regional Development identified a variety of sources that could be value added or used to produce renewable energy. Large quantities of cypress trees being removed and burnt are one such biomass stream.

what-we-do8Sawmill with sawdust burner
A number of sawmills still burn wood waste in the form of sawdust. Pelletizing plants and combined heat and power generators can convert this waste stream into a useful source of renewable energy while at the same time providing an additional revenue stream to the mill. TreeMod is currently working with sawmill owner to develop these opportunities and reduce greenhouse gas emissions
